ONGOING 2009 TO DATE
ACTIVITY: DIGITALIZATION OF PATIENT RECORDS
National, provincial and district health policy, annual operational performance goals and critical resource allocation decisions are made based on data collected at the most fundamental levels of the health care system. The degree to which this data is accurate and complete is the degree to which all other health administration decisions will work to improve the quality of care delivered. This fact has been repeatedly recognized and articulated by authorities at all levels of the Kenyan healthcare system. Currently, the public health information system suffers from great inefficiencies that give rise to the following problems:
- Incomplete or missing patient, epidemiological, and health systems management data
- Centralization of resources and knowledge
- Stovepipe Disease Programmes
- Accountability
To solve these recognized problems, Vecna Technologies Inc in collaboration with Reto Mara Development Organization, proposes the development of an electronic Health Delivery Infrastructure (HDI) to fill these gaps in the Kenyan public health infrastructure. The development of a single, standardized platform to address these concerns will not only improve the way in which public health information is generated and stored, but also provide a foundation for future improvements.
