ACTIVITY: CONTROLLING HIV/AIDS IN TRANSMARA DISTRICT (CHAIT)
Several devastating effects have been documented to increase; the rate of HIV infections amidst a backdrop of exceptionally high awareness rates in Trans Mara district. Civil society have isolated and employed targeted approaches towards the management of this scourge in the district, but suffice is to say subsequent positive behavioural change has stagnated.
The existing conditions in the low income rural areas of Trans Mara district have exacerbated this case scenario. The major problems that have been shown to undermine the fight against AIDS among youth includes; Drug and Alcohol abuse, retrogressive cultural practices e.g. female genital mutilation; rape, inadequate information and lack of appropriate youth friendly reproductive health services, unemployment and poverty among others.
Some of the notable constraints in the fight against HIV/AIDS include; lacking behaviour change focused interventions, little community involvement in continuum of care, stigma and discrimination and self-denial among others.
